The club’s adult hurlers came from behind on Saturday to secure their second win in the Intermediate Hurling Championship with a three point victory over Drumree.

Played in breezy conditions in Ratoath, the Moors conceded a goal inside the first minute via a low strike from the 14 yard line. Daniel Doherty sent a point over in response, with the two sides swapping scores in the first 10 minutes as JJ McManus got his name on the sheet.

Both sides had quality players on frees, as Michael O’Sullivan and Evan Curley traded white flags. Drumree would go four clear at one point only for two more O’Sullivan dead balls backed up by a Seán Doyle point to narrow the gap at half time to just two points.

The swirling wind in Seán Eiffe Park played a major role in the second half, with two goals in the opening three minutes. The first was for Drumree, as a long ball in dropped short and caught out the Don/Ash defence to allow a five-point gap to open.

But from the next Don/Ash attack, they got a goal of their own. A tackle from Sam Benville in the Moors half back line won possession, with O’Sullivan sprinting away down the right wing before shooting.

The shot fell short, but Colm Ó Méalóid had ran towards the edge of the square in anticipation. He managed to get between the Drumree keeper and full back to catch the sliotair, before turning and kicking to the net, similar to his extra-time goal in last year’s quarter final win over Boardsmill.

A tetchy period followed as both sides hit wides and the intensity rose, but Drumree held on to a three point lead halfway through the second period.

However, the Moors hit a purple patch then, hitting 1-2 in the next five minutes to take the lead. Daniel Doherty fired to the net from close range after an O’Sullivan effort was deflected into his path, with points from Patrick Moran and another O’Sullivan free backing it up. The Moors workrate kicked up another level, including those coming off the bench.

Drumree levelled it again with five minutes to go, but they would not score again in the second half, as Don/Ash sealed the win via two more O’Sullivan frees and a Seán Doyle point from play.
