As you are probably aware, our club, Donaghmore/Ashbourne GAA does not have enough pitches to cater for the number of young people who want to play our games. Our activities contribute enormously to the wellbeing and proper development of young people, both physically and mentally, especially when they are growing up in an environment of issues such as obesity, drugtaking and social media amongst other challenges.
We believe that the large growth in population should be accompanied by a corresponding growth in community facilities and as such, Donaghmore/Ashbourne GAA has set up a committee which is currently working to solve this problem and will be seeking the help of our elected representatives to do so.
The upcoming general election will give us the opportunity to tell our candidates about the shortage of playing facilities and that we will be seeking their support in helping to solve the problem. Any help you as a member can give would be appreciated by canvassing your local representatives to ask how they can influence local planning to assist with this.
Brian Thomas
Donaghmore/Ashbourne GAA Chairman
