With the sun struggling to burst through the clouds this morning and with go games deferred this week, the U8 boys of Donaghmore Ashbourne said no to staying in bed (sorry parents) no to computers and picked up their hurls and helmets and made the short trip to our second home Milltown.
With Ratoath joining us this morning and great numbers from both teams, the stage was set for those who wanted to play and play we did.
The morning conditions were favourable to hurling and we were not disappointed in the slightest. From the first whistle to the last we were treated to tenacious blocking, fearless tackling, daisy cutting ground strokes. In the last match the boys stepped it up and some amazing roll and jab lifting on display which resulted in points worthy of an Rté camera crew. The support play, teamwork and fun today was a joy to watch as this group tackle together, score together, regroup and grow together.
11 extremely proud and happy mentors with our ears ringing from the congratulatory roar from the team huddle walked off the pitch today knowing we have something special in our midst.
The three referees did themselves and the club proud officiating the 9 matches today.
