An early rise this morning for the 23 kilometre drive over to Kiltale for the U8 boys of Donaghmore Ashbourne. With instructions for extra wheatabix and porridge for breakfast 1 by 1 the cars rolled into the carpark and out hopped 21 bright eyed players with hurls and helmets coming from all angles.
With hands sanitised and the green and white jerseys pulled on the mood changed. Intent and concentration from the lads in the warm up. Glances to the opposition with a slight nervousness in the air. 5 minutes until throw in and the players came in for their instructions. Teamwork, effort, support and a rousing Donaghmore Ashbourne roar which all could hear and feel.
By the time the final score went over the bar for us from inside our own half, we witnessed something special today. Yes we had every skill on show today. Yes every single player stepped up to the mark today as individuals. But then it happened Kiltale rallied and redoubled their efforts and with a silent nod to each other, we played as a team. And wow did they play, and when they clicked it was a joy to watch.
We walked off that pitch today with nothing left wanting and 7 extremely proud mentors. Wednesday can’t come quick enough for this team and their next match as we continue this journey with these future champions. Training continues on Thursdays and all players welcome.
We are
Stronger together

Donaghmore Ashbourne together.
