Gaeil Colmcille 2-15 (21) Donaghmore Ashbourne 3-10 (19)

This was a very entertaining game of football which saw some great scores from both sides after a long layoff from action on the field.  The home side started well with a quick point followed by a pointed free before Don/Ash scored through good work out field which ended with James Crumlish opening for the visitors. This was followed by a great move and a goal from Michael Deegan to put Don/Ash on the front foot. By 12 minutes it was level at 5pts to 1-2. Dylan Brady scored 3 points in quick succession to put Don/Ash up by 2 points but the home side kept plugging away with scores coming from frees.  James Redmond finished to the net on 24 minutes to stretch the lead to 4 points. Michael Deegan finished the first half with a pointed free to leave the the score at half time Don/Ash 2-5 Gaeil Colmcille 0-7. The only disappointing aspect to the first half was that there were 2 red cards issued on 26 minutes for something that didn't seem to be too innocuous.

Don/Ash started the 2nd half with a goal coming from Dylan Brady with only 20 seconds gone, which put the visitors 7 points up and playing well. It was the hard work from the backs who defended very well and turned over many attacks and quickly sent the ball through centre field to put us back in the scoring end of the field. The home side etched away at the lead with points coming from close in frees and from play before putting the ball in the back of the net on 41 minutes. This brought it back to a 2 point game. The home side got a further goal on 53 minutes to put them ahead by 1pt. Further points from Daragh McGovern, Michael Deegan and Dylan Brady wasn't enough on the night to win the first outing of the season.   Overall it was a match played with lots of good football from both sides with a high scoring finish which ended with Gaeil Colmcille 2-15 to Don/Ash 3-10.  With the way we played as a team tonight I think it is only time that we will come out on the winning side.  Best of luck in the upcoming games.
