Donaghmore/Ashbourne v Curraha Feis Cup 23rd June 2021 at Ashbourne.

HT Don/Ash 0-10  Curraha 1-2
FT Don Ash  5-17 Curraha  1-5

Donaghmore Ashbourne welcomed neighbours Curraha to Ashbourne tonight on a warm but perfect night for football.  The home side recorded their first win in the competition with an emphatic win over an under strength Currah side.  Leo Reilly opened the scoring with the first point followed by a Curraha point.  Shaun Byrne and Simon Wilson added to the scoreboard before the Curraha full forward got his hands on the ball and with only the goalkeeper to beat put it in the corner of the net to make it 0-4 to 1-1.  This seemed to waken the home side and they went on to out score Curraha by 6 points to 1pt with scores from Stephen Carton, Sean Curran and further points from Wilson and Reilly.  This score could have been higher if not for the saves made by Curraha's goalkeeper.

Donaghmore Ashbourne continued to dominate in the 2nd half and when Tormey was brought down and awarded a free which he took very quickly to Wilson who put Dylan Brady in for goal after 2 minutes. Further scores from Carton, Wilson and Daragh McGovern kept the scoreboard ticking over.  Our defence played very well to keep any threat from the visitors to a minimum and a mention for the good work of Rodney Jones who looked very comfortable at corner back who played his first full match at Senior grade.  4 more goals from Sean Curran, Rory McCann, Simon Wilson and Thomas McGovern (penalty) ended the contest but allowed Donaghmore Ashbourne to make the full complement of 7 subs.  Donaghmore/Ashbourne will face stronger opposition in the coming weeks in the Feis Cup but a win was important to get points on the board.  We played some very good direct football and let's hope this continues as the competition progresses.

Don/Ash:-  Jack Hannigan; Rodney Jones, Jason Boland, Conor Carton; Sean Curran (1-1), Shane Melia, Thomas McGovern (1-0 1P); Andrew Tormey, James Redmond; Shaun Byrne (0-2), Daragh McGovern (0-1 1f), Leo Reilly (0-2); Stephen Carton (0-6 2f), Simon Wilson (1-4), Dylan Brady(1-0). Subs:- David Carr for Melia, Rory McCann for Tormey, James Crumlish for Brady, Evan Quinn for McGovern, Ethan Tormey for Sean Curran, Cillian Hogan for Byrne and Ciaran Ellis for Carton.
