Senior Football Championship Group A 2nd Round

Donaghmore/Ashbourne v Ratoath in Pairc Tailteann Sunday 29th August at 1pm

H/T Score Don/Ash 0-9 Ratoath 0-5

F/T Score Don/Ash 0-14 Ratoath 2-12

Ratoath opened the scoring with the first point after just 1 minute of play. Donaghmore/Ashbourne leveled with a well taken 45 from our Goalkeeper Andy Colgan. By the first water break Don/Ash were up by 5 pts to 3pts coming from Dylan Brady, Michael Deegan, Shaun Byrne and Leo Reilly playing good kick passing football and tracking back working extremely hard to stem threats of goals coming from a very dangerous Ratoath forward line. Don/Ash continued to dominate with very good defensive work and points coming from Bryan Menton, Dylan Brady , Michael Deegan and Andrew Tormey.

The third quarter didn't go so well for the Don/Ash side as they conceded 2-5 to 0-1 to leave an uphill battle to get back into this game which was very similar to the first round match v Navan O'Mahoneys. In their defence after the 2nd water break they didn't give up and continued to try their best to get the vital goals required to beat their near neighbours Ratoath. Bryan Menton, Michael Deegan (2 frees) and Sean Curran concluding the scoring for Don/Ash which was at the end of an attach which saw the ball being taken off the Ratoath goal line several times. This is their 2nd defeat so at this stage it would seem unlikely that they can qualify and will go into the next match trying to get points on the board to hang in with any kind of chance of coming out of this group.

Don/Ash:- Andy Colgan (0-1 45), Jason Boland, Iarlaith O'Donnell, James Redmond; Evan Quinn, Thomas McGovern, S Curran (0-1), Shane Melia, Bryan Menton (0-2), Darragh McGovern, Dylan Brady (0-2), Leo Reilly (0-1), Shaun Byrne (0-1), Andrew Tormey (0-1), Michael Deegan (0-5 2f).

Subs:- James Crumlish for Reilly, Jamie Browne for Thomas McGovern and Stephen Carton for Darragh McGovern.
