A pulsating high scoring championship encounter in the club on Friday night resulted in a well earned 4 point win for Donaghmore Ashbourne. The game started with a fast pace and the Moores were on the scoreboard early with well taken points from James Brady, David Donnelly, Sean Noone and Darragh Gleeson. A flowing team move resulted with a well taken goal from Colm O’Toole. Walterstown responded with two goals in the second quarter and jumped into the lead with Don Ash responding with a couple of well taken points before half time. Walterstown led by 2 points at half time.
The second half continued with end to end action and pace but the Don Ash defense was now settling into the defensive task at hand with excellent marking from Declan Healy, James Flavin and Anthony Lynn. Don Ash continued to add the scores and two excellent points from Scott Ward and a well taken late penalty from David Donnelly and a point from Fergal Heffernan gave DonAsh a small lead. Walterstown now came in search of a late goal and played long balls into the full forward line but the Don Ash lads retained possession with Ciaran Beirne and James Brady prominent and the team closed out the game well to deliver a 4 point win.
A great team performance on the night with a really good blend of experience and youth and with two games left in the group the team lies third in the division and are targeting a championship semi-final.
