Seneschalstown V Donaghmore/Ashbourne 8pm in Seneschalstown.
H/T Seneschalstown 0-5 Don/Ash 4-6
F/T Seneschalstown 0-11 Don/Ash 6-8
Don/Ash made it 3 wins out of 3 to top Group D with a convincing win away in Seneschalstown last night on a night that if you stood still for too long you could turn into a block of ice. The loyal supporters gathered along the tree lined side of the bottom pitch to get some kind of cover from the elements. Leo Reilly was first to get the scoreboard up and running with a well taken point from play after 2 minutes. Seneschalstown levelled with a point from a 45. Andrew Tormey was in the right place to put the visitors 1-1 to 0-1 ahead with a ball in from Michael Deegan. The homeside pointed another free after 7 minutes before Daragh McGovern playing at No 11 and working his socks off put over a point followed by a goal which came from a great pass from Conor Carton. Dylan Brady was very active in the full forward line and got his own point after 19minutes of play followed up with Carton driving from the backs to take his own point from play. With 20 minutes gone it was 2-4 to 3pts with all of Don/Ash scores coming from play. Seneschalstown got the next point from play but Brady replied with his 2nd on the night. With the fast running Seneschalstown forwards it was no easy job to contain them but Luke Barrett, James Redmond, Matt Crumlish, Ethan Tormey, Conor Carton and the ever present Sean Curran leading things from centre back all worked extremely hard. Jack Hannigan in goals hit his target with a varied kickout which saw Killian Hogan and Kevin Cully fielding some great ball in centre field. Michael Deegan converted a free on 28 minutes followed up with a converted free from Seneschalstown. Don/Ash piled on the pressure which resulted in Shaun Byrne and Leo Reill adding 2 more goals before half time. Half time score was 4-6 (1f) to 0-5 (4f).
Seneschalstown were guilty of kicking a lot of wides from play but got 2 back before Brady pointed on 40 minutes. Andrew Tormey who with his experience of playing the elements and had given pinpointed passes during the game got his reward of a 2nd goal on 41 minutes. The game was over as a contest but the homeside rallied and added another 4 points but were again guilty of several wides. McGovern pointed on 43 minutes followed by young Matt Crumlish who has settled very well into the senior team this year getting a super goal to finish the scoring for Don/Ash. 4 subs were introduced, Chris Twomey, Danny Deery, Stephen Carton and Kevin Fenton while coming off was Conor Carton, Michael Deegan, Andrew Tormey and Daragh McGovern. Danny Deery while normally playing in the forwards put in the best block to stop the homeside from scoring a goal. Overall this was a good performance from Donaghmore/Ashbourne given the conditions on the night. I for one wasn't sorry to hear the final whistle blow as we scurried back to our cars for heat. Next up is the semi-final of Feis Cup next weekend, we await to hear who we play and where. Further details to follow as soon as fixture come out.
