Premier Championship Division 3
Donash 1-11 Dunsany 0-6
A really good first round outing for the Premier Division 3 team on Saturday evening in the club with the win kicking off the championship nicely.
Dunsany started the game with a sweeper system and retained possession with a running game which required some resolute and timely defending from Donash with James Flavin and Cianan Finn leading the way. Donash settled into the game with Matty Doran, Ciaran Beirne and Cian Field getting nice points and Sean Noone, Alex Purcell and Nathan McGrath getting on plenty of ball around the middle.
Donash were now moving the ball well and finding space and also pressing the Dunsany kick-outs. Matty Doran again on the scoreboard with a point before half time and it was Donash 0-7 Dunsany 0-2 at the break.
Dunsany started the second half well and added an early point and Donash responded with points from Doran and Beirne. Dominion Abagha was now carrying the ball well and helping set up attacks and with some nice forwards passing there was a goal mouth scramble with Cael Sullivan calmly finishing the ball past the Dunsany keeper for a key goal. Dunsany were now looking for goals and Alex Ward pulled off a fantastic diving save and once again some great defending and blocks from Milo Connolly, Jack Quinn and Simon Purcell.
Dunsany were reduced to 14 following an incident with the referee near the sideline and Donash managed the last 10 minutes well to close out the game with an 8 point margin. A good team performance all round with plenty to work on ahead of the next championship round against Dunderry at Easter. A special mention for Matty Doran who ended the match with six points from play.
