Ratoath 1.9 Donaghmore Ashbourne 1.7
Div 1A League in Ratoath – April 13th @ 7:30
This rearranged round 3 fixture was originally postponed due to the passing of Donaghmore Ashbourne Club President Terry Tormey.
In a game that won’t live long in the memory of both set of supporters, Ratoath came out on top after a dominant third quarter where they scored 1.4 without reply and won by 1.9 to 1.7.
Ratoath opened the scoring in the first half but then a spell where Stephen Carton scored three points the best being an interception from a kick out. James Crumlish scored a very good goal that the Ratoath goalkeeper initially saved, and James hit the back of the net with the rebound. Excellent combined play between the Carton brother’s setup the chance. Dylan Brady tagged on another point with a tight angle from the left corner.
Ratoath then grew into the game and some good defending by the Donaghmore Ashbourne backs and save from Andy Colgan kept Ratoath at bay. 3 Ratoath points sandwiched James Crumlish’s point in a period where Donaghmore Ashbourne had some wides and shots into the Ratoath Goal keepers hands.
The Second half started with the score 1.5 to 5 in favour of Donaghmore and when our normal PRO had to go to her Pilate class. That quickly changed with an early Ratoath Goal followed by 4 unanswered points. Remarkably that was Ratoaths final score of the match whilst Donaghmore added points from a Stephen Carton Mark and an Andy Colgan free.
Right at the death Donaghmore had an opportunity to win the match from a rebound of the post from an Andy Colgan 45 but Ratoath managed to clear and the match ended.
The next game for Donaghmore Ashbourne in Div 1A is at home to Simonstown on Tuesday 19th at 7:15.
