Summerhill v Donaghmore/Ashbourne in Summerhill at 7.30pm on Tuesday 26th April.
HT Summerhill 1-6 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1-4
FT Summerhill 1-8 Donaghmore/Ashbourne 1-12
Any win you get when you play Summerhill in their home grounds is a good win. We welcomed back our Meath U20 lads Kevin Cully, Evan Quinn and Jamie Browne who unfortunately went down to Dublin in Parnell Park last Thursday. Don/Ash opened the scoring with a good pass from Andrew Tormey to Dylan Brady and put it over for the first point of the game after 2 minutes. We then had a five minute patch of up and down the pitch with some good kick passing from both teams but it took a free from Summerhill to level up on 7 minutes. Matt Crumlish went on a run from wing back but was taken down as he was about to take a shot, we failed to convert the ensuing free. Don/Ash were next to score and this was a well worked goal from Leo Reilly collecting a great ball who passed to Stephen Carton and on to Evan Quinn to put it to the back of the net. Summerhill went on to score 2 points in quick succession to leave the minimum between them. Kevin Cully went high to collect a kick out from Andy Colgan and passed to the quick running Jamie Browne who put over a lovely point with 17 minutes gone on the clock. Stephen Carton put over his first point from play with 7 minutes to go in the first half. It was time for Summerhill to show their talents and they did that by going on to score 1-3 with Dylan Brady bringing it back to 2 points just before the half time whistle. It could have been a lot worse for the visitors had Andy Colgan not pulled off a fine save. Sean Curran once again showed his experience when cutting out some dangerous attacks from Summerhill. H/T Summerhill 1-6 Don/Ash 1-4.
Summerhill got a point from a free to go 3 ahead before Stephen Carton brought it back with a good point from play. Both sides were guilty of a few wides before Leo Reilly scored a fine point on 12 minutes with good work from Andrew Tormey and Stephen Carton. This followed by a great point from about 30mtrs out from Ethan Tormey. It was all level and all to play for and Summerhill always looked dangerous when going forward but with Luke Barrett, Conor Carton and James Redmond doing great work in the full back line it made things difficult for the home side. They did score their final point of the match with 14 minutes gone in the 2nd half to go 1 up. Andy Colgan came to the visitors aid to make 2 great saves and keep the visitors in with a chance of winning away. Donaghmore/Ashbourne leveled with a free from Stephen Carton. With 10 minutes left on the clock Don/Ash rang the changes with Michael Deegan on for Tormey, Iarlaith O'Donnell on for Redmond and Shaun Byrne for Crumlish. This seemed to have an immediate impact, Kevin Cully was first up with a point, Michael Deegan put a high ball in which Carton who anticipated well to get on the end of it to put over the bar. James Crumlish was on for Dylan Brady with 5 minutes remaining. Michael Deegan put over the next 2 points from play to give a little daylight of 4 points between the teams with time up on the clock. Darragh McGovern who was out with a hamstring niggle was on for a run out for Stephen Carton. Darragh McGovern did put the ball in the back of the net but it wasn't allowed and was deemed to be a square ball. We went into injury time and unfortunately just before the final whistle was blown a high ball came in from James Crumlish with Ethan Tormey and Tony McDonnell going high to secure possession clashed and Tony unfortunately came out the worst in the clash. He did walk off the pitch and we wish him all the best in his recovery. There was another 1 minute played before the final whistle was blown for a good away win for Donaghmore/Ashbourne.
