Report from Jonathan Carr.

There was a chill in the air for the visit of Longwood in this A
Football League, division 2B match. Before this match the top three teams in this division were all on within touching distance of each other. Kilmainham were sitting top with 7 points while Donaghmore/Ashbourne and Dunshaughlin were in joint second with 6 points each. All were playing tonight.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne started the match with lots of possession and patient play but Longwood answered point for point with their style of direct football 5 points a-piece in the first half but a penalty for
Donaghmore/Ashbourne kept them 3 points ahead at the end of the 30 minutes.
Don/Ash could have been ahead by more but for some rushed kicks going wide. Alex Purcell was introduced for the injured big Joe Magee and the young lad put in a great shift.

The second half saw more pressure mounting on Longwood. The Donaghmore/Ashbourne
backs working the ball through the hands and patiently moving the ball up the field. Sam Benville was introduced for Ruairi McCann and immediately scored a sweet curling point from long range. Matthew Doran was introduced as a corner forward and worked hard to keep
pressure on the Longwood backs. The second half saw Donaghmore/Ashbourne scoring
6 points to Longwoods 5 points. Don/Ash played the possession game
and patiently took their points. The final score was:

Donaghmore/Ashbourne     1.11
Longwood                            0.10

With wins for Donaghmore and Dunshaughlin, and a draw for Kilmainham all three teams are tied at the top on 8 points. Lots to play for and
we will all be looking forward to the Donaghmore v Kilmainham clash away in Kilmainham
next Tuesday 3rd May.
