SEAMUS HEANEY CUP FINAL

SEVEN Donaghmore Ashbourne minors will be involved in the Meath squad for next Wednesday evening’s Seamus Heaney Cup final against Wexford at O’Moore Park Portlaoise.

The Leinster Championship may not have worked out as planned with one point defeats by Longford and Offaly seeing Meath exit the competition.

This meant the final group game against Kildare was a dead rubber. 

Since then Meath have defeated Louth and Westmeath to make the Seamus Heaney Cup final. 

All seven lads have tasted action.

Matthew Scanlon was sweeper for the Offaly game, and came on at half-time in the Longford match, doing a very good job for the team on the day.

Eoin Kelly has forced his way into the team in recent weeks.

He played the entire game against Westmeath last Wednesday night at Cusack Park, Mullingar and acquitted himself very well after playing a full game against Kildare and a half against Louth.

Aidan Mackey started two of the Championship games in the half back line and acquitted himself very well as a substitute against Westmeath last weekend. 

Evan O’Kane played all the challenge matches at midfield, and did a good job, earning a start for the Championship opener against Longford.

Oisin Daly has been a virtual ever present in the team from start to finish of the campaign, performing to a consistently high level at corner back. 

Club forwards Zach Thornton and Michael O’Sullivan have hit eight goals between them in the last four games. 

Aidan Mackey started two games and did very well as a substitute last Wednesday night against Westmeath.

And Michael McIver, the Ardcath man who hurls for us made a big impact off the bench against Westmeath after an early knock forced him out of the crucial Offaly game.
