Dunboyne opened the scoring with a Donal Lenehan point that was quickly followed by a Kevin Fenton point from an acute angle. Fenton was straight back into the action with some tidy passing but the ball was eventually put wide.
Following a Dunboyne point the ball went down the field but an interception and some quick passing sent the ball straight back up to the Donaghmore end. A shot going wide was put into the net from an alert Dunboyne player. Some good quick passing and possession play from Donaghmore resulted in a Shaun Byrne point. The kickout was then won by Donaghmore, a diagonal kick from Stephen Carton to Dylan Brady who was right in front of goal. Dylan took his point.
Dunboyne scored another point and this was followed by 5 points in a row from Donaghmore. Shaun Byrne from play, an Andy Colgan free from just inside the Dunboyne half and a Leo Reilly score following great possession play. This was followed by two tremendous scores. Bryan Menton sent the supporters wild with a score from far out on the side-line and then Kevin Fenton scored with a first-time kick from the 45.
Dunboyne scored again before Donaghmore were reduced to 14 men following a very harsh black card given to Iarlath O’Donnell. In the last five minutes Dunboyne scored 2 and Donaghmore scored 1 from Bryan Menton.

The first ten minutes of the second half were dramatic, with Dunboyne scoring 4 points to Donaghmore’s 1 (Shaun Byrne). There were two injuries to Donaghmore players that resulted in both being carried off the pitch. Aaron McLoughlin was injured in a collision and Stephen Carton was knocked to the ground off the ball. Ethan Tormey and Andrew Tormey came on for the two injured players. Michael Deegan was also brought on for Alan Murtagh. Both Andy Tormey and Michael Deegan scored a point each in the next few minutes. The match was then brought to within a point following a Kevin Fenton point. Tomas Cooney and David Carr came on for Darragh McGovern and Dylan Brady.
In the last 10 minutes of the match Dunboyne broke quickly on a number of occasions resulting in 2 goals and 3 points. Michael Deegan scored two points, one from play and one free. The game finished:
