Don Ash v  Skryne

Premier Division 1

Don/Ash 4-9    Skryne 0-8

A wonderful win for Donaghmore/Ashbourne against Skyrne at home this morning in glorious sunshine. Although the full time score would suggest otherwise, it was a very even game, closely contested.

Skryne opened the game with a wide, followed by a point scored by Skryne’s number 5 after good passing and possession. Darragh Gleeson was awarded a free which he landed in the square to end in a square ball for Skryne. Matt Crumlish was taken off injured after being fouled by a shoulder. A free was awarded and Matt was replaced by Milo Connelly. Matt was taken straight to hospital and we wish him all the best. David Donnelly was replaced by Cian Field.

Sam Benville opened up the scoring for Donaghmore Ashbourne with a point from play, quickly followed by a point from Killian Hogan. Skryne scored two points from play and a converted free to go two points ahead. Following great play from Aaron McLoughlin, Séan Tyrell, Killian Hogan and Joe Magee, Sam Benville landed the ball in the net for our first goal. Skryne followed this by converting a free to level the match for the third time. A mark was won by David Carr who quickly passed to Killian Hogan who duly converted his point. Darragh Gleeson converted a free kick just before half time to have us up by two points going into the second half.

Half-Time score Don/Ash 1-4 Skyrne 0-5

David Carr came off after 3 minutes were played in the second half due to an injury. He was replaced by Séan Noone. Darragh Gleeson scored a point from good play following a free. Sam Benville scored his second goal of the match after some good passing and a nice assist from Cian Field. A point from Skryne was followed up quickly with points from Killian Hogan, Darragh Gleeson and Cian Field. Skyrne scored another point from play to bring the score to Don/Ash  2.08, Skyrne 0.08. Only two goals separating the teams. Darragh Gleeson was on target again with a point from a lovely curling free kick. Skryne had their chances but had a number of wides as a result of great pressure from the Don/Ash backs.

Séan Tyrell found the back of Skryne’s net to push Don/Ash 3.09 to 0.08 up. Cian Field intercepted the ball in midfield and found himself in lots of space. At pace he ran towards the Skryne goal and then layed off a lovely pass at just the right moment to Rory McCann. The big man made no mistake and took his goal and the last score of the game. In the last moments of the game Jack McCarney pulled off a great save in front of our goal.
