Feis Cup Semi Final
24th Feb @ 8pm in Ashbourne
Donaghmore Ashbourne Vs Summerhill
On a February night ideal for football Don/Ash reached the Feis Cup final after a solid performance with a team that was blended with youth and experience.
Summerhill started the better scoring 1-1 sandwiched in with a free from Andy Tormey. The Moors settled and with points from Tormey, Menton, Cully, Brady, Mackey and Brown gave Don/Ash the lead. This was Aidan Mackey’s first start at senior level where he stood up and did not look out of place.Summerhill stayed in the game by responding with a couple of scores.
Dylan Brady scored the next point which he started with a great catch and passed to Kevin Cully onto Jamie Brown and back to Dylan. Michael O Sullivan then had a great opportunity, but it was brilliantly saved by the Summerhill Goalkeeper. Leo Reilly scored the next point after receiving the ball from Eoin Ryan’s kick out and ran the pitch to put over the bar. Bryan Menton finished the first half with a trademark point.
Half Time; Don Ash 0-10 Summerhill 1-4
Summerhill again scored the first point of the half followed by another Menton point with a free from Brown and a brace from Reilly before Summerhill scored their second. Dylan Brady scored the next point that could have resulted in a goal if not for the strong defending by Summerhill. Reilly then added to his tally with another point followed by a point from sub Josh Lancaster who replaced Andy Tormey. Summerhill then played some good football and scored 4 of the next 5points with the Don Ash contribution from Jamie Brown. However, the mini renaissance was stopped in its tracks by a brilliant Sam Benville Goal followed up by another Lancaster point.
Full Time; Don Ash 1-19 Summerhill 1-09
Overall a good workout for both teams who blooded in a lot of youth during the game.
