Donaghmore/Ashbourne v Wolfe Tones A league Division 1A Round 7 in Ashbourne at 8pm. Referee Joseph Curran.

H/T Don/Ash 2-9  Wolfe Tones 1-4

F/T Don/Ash 3-15  Wolfe Tones 1-11

Donaghmore/Ashbourne welcomed Wolfe Tones to Ashbourne tonight on a perfect night for football and they didn't disappoint. Having lost on Tuesday night after what you could call a collapse in the 2nd half they had it all to prove to themselves and they did it in style.  Wolfe Tones won the ball from the throw in and kicked down towards the town end but Sean Curran intercepted and kicked a perfect pass to Darragh O'Sullivan out on the wing who let the ball go to Dylan Brady who sent the ball perfectly timed to the in running Matt Crumlish who finished to the net with 45 seconds on the clock. Don/Ash gained possession again and James Redmond put the ball over to Dylan Brady who sent over the bar.  Bryan Menton won the ball from the kickout and sent it  straight into Jamie Browne who fired over the bar.  Darragh O'Sullivan was gifted a pass from Jamie Browne who finished over the bar off his left boot.  Don/Ash were 1-3 up and still pushing and our midfield were showing well with Kevin Cully and Byran Menton winning ball which was being moved quickly to our forwards.  Jamie Browne added another point from play.  It was 11 minutes into the match before Wolfe Tones pointed from a free from Cian Ward. Caolan Ward added a 2nd 2 minutes later and they were up and running. With 16 minutes on the clock Tones who are always dangerous in around the scoring area and broke the Don/Ash defence to get a goal (Oisin Martin) to make it  Don/Ash 1-4 to Tones 1-3. It was game on and Don/Ash had to put their heads down and quell the danger which Tones can inflict on teams but our full back line of Aaron McLoughlin, Evan Quinn and Oisin (Block) Daly were not going to be beaten, they were first to every ball.  Once again Menton was to the fore and sent a great pass into Leo Reilly who pointed to make it 1-5.  Darragh O'Sullivan was taken down minutes later and Jamie Browne put over the bar from the resulting free.  James Redmond was next up playing on the half back line he used his speed to gain enough ground to take his point from play from 30 meters out. Andrew Tormey who was instrumental in jelling the forwards got his own point on 23 minutes and the homeside were 1-8 to 1-4 up after Tones had converted from a free.  It was Menton and Tormey again who provided the passes to Jamie Browne who made no mistake and put the ball past the Tones keeper to make it 2-8 to 1-4. Andrew Tormey finished the half with another point from play just as the whistle went for half time.

Wolfe Tones had it all to do but they came out in the 2nd half and started with a point from play Oisin Martin again.  Fiachra Ward got in on the action to make it 1-6 for Tones.  Tormey was brought down on route to goal and duly converted his free.  James Crumlish got the next point from a free off his left foot.  Tones replied with a point from Kyle Moran.  Don/Ash 2-11 to Tones 1-7. Shaun Byrne was introduced from James Redmond (blood sub).  Shaun was very effective and won some great ball in the danger area.  Michael Deegan came on for Dylan Brady 45 minutes. Sean Curran was his usual hardworking self at half back and Matt Crumlish was winning some really good ball from half back and was taken down while travelling at speed down the line, Jamie Browne converted the free.  Andy Colgan got in on the action when he put over a free from at least 45 metres out.  Michael Deegan joined in on some exquisite points scored on the night.Zach Thornton on for Darragh O'Sullivan (51).  Tones did reply with a point from a free Caolan Ward and another from play Donal O'Neill, it was 2-14 to 1-9 and 55 minutes gone.  Don/Ash put a great move together with James Crumlish, Michael Deegan, Andrew Tormey and eventually Leo Reilly was taken down have caught the ball in the penalty area.  Tormey converted the penalty.  Jamie Browne finished the Don/Ash scoring with a point from a free much to the joy of the Don/Ash supporters who enjoyed the feast of scores on the night.  Wolfe Tones did get the last 2 scores of the night with a point from a free Caolan Ward and Kyle Moran finishing with a point from play.  It was a great performance from every man on the pitch tonight and one which we hope they continue to provide as the league continues.  It's a very welcome 2 points on the League Table for Donaghmore/Ashbourne and hopefully they will now keep it going against St. Peter's Dunboyne on Tuesday night in Dunboyne at 7.30pm.
