Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-12 Na Fianna 2-6
In a dress rehearsal for the Senior Championship later in the summer, Donaghmore Ashbourne and Na Fianna clashed in this Div 1A match, and the first half was a cagey affair with the defences winning out for both sides.
Donaghmore were first on the scoreboard with a pointed free from James Crumlish followed by 2 points from Leo Reilly before Na Fianna scored their only point of the first half from a free. They did have a goal disallowed for a square ball late into the half.
Sean Curran scored the final point of the first half to take 4 points to 1 lead into halftime.
The second half got off to a great start for the home side with a move started off in the defence and finished in the back of the net by Kevin Fenton. Na Fianna got their second point from a free followed by points from Leo Reilly and Andy Tormey for the Moors. Another Na Fianna free was quickly followed by points from place balls by Andy Tormey and Jamie Browne.
Both sides were reduced to 14 men after an altercation.
James Crumlish had a goal disallowed for over carrying which was followed by Na Fianna’s first point from play. Kevin Fenton and James Crumlish added further scores for Donaghmore Ashbourne, and they were leading by 1-10 to 4 points going into the last quarter.
Na Fianna bounced back with a well taken goal whilst Kevin Fenton and Bryan Menton added further points to keep a reasonable distance between the teams. However, Na Fianna then added 1-1 to leave the gap at 4 points. Evan Quinn then scored a great team goal started from Andy Colgans kick out to restore the Donaghmore Ashbourne lead.
